The full story - behind the scenes

Hi, I’m Aura — the person wild enough to take on the story of Ibiza. When I first had the idea, I had no clue how massive, chaotic, and wonderfully impossible this project would become. In English we say, “it’s like herding cats” — and honestly, that sums this journey up pretty well.

Wha's my relationship with ibiza?

I landed in Ibiza in July 2020, mid-pandemic, chasing a new start. I didn’t know anyone, hadn’t done any research, and hadn’t followed the scene in years. I just remembered the vibe from the mid-2000s and thought: why not? After 15 years of living all over the world and finding my way on many dancefloors — something about this island called to me. I found a random room in San Juan, turned up in the middle of the night and woke up the next morning finding myself in paradise.

who am i?

Since 2012, I’ve been running a custom comic studio called Make Me A Comic, creating custom comic artwork — from love stories to superhero sagas. I write the scripts, dream up the visuals, and my brilliant art team brings them to life.

The company has created over 4000 pieces of custom comic artwork and has over 20005 star reviews. It is the leading custom comic studio in the world.

We also create comic for businesses, and have worked with the top 3 global tech giants, Microsoft, Google and Amazon.

where did the idea come from?

When I started hearing about Ibiza’s wild stories I just had to know more, so off I went down a rabbit hole of debaucherous tales. The more I uncovered, the more I thought, what a great story! Why has no one written this story in 1 book?

One lazy afternoon, high on creativity (and a leftover tab from Burning Man), the vision for We Love Ibiza was born — quite literally while cleaning the house and watching the sunset from my roof - trippin'.

I realised what a great comic book this story would make, that in fact a comic strip format was the only way the Ibiza story could be told in a lighthearted and fluffy manner.

The procrastination...

I started telling friends and they’d all say, “I’d buy that!” Soon people were introducing me to others, and out of nowhere I started interviewing people, Clive Crocker was the first, he co owned The Domino, a jazz bar in Ibiza port in the 50’s. Each person I spoke to would connect me to 2-3 more people, it was like a huge spider web of information and connections, it all happened very organically.

The deeper I went, the more I realised what a mammoth task it was. I wasn’t just gathering a few fun stories — this was a full-blown epic tale, with decades of memories, hundreds of voices, and a whole lot of emotion tied to it. I had to navigate different perspectives, big personalities, and a deep protectiveness people feel about their Ibiza. Combining this with the fact I was very new on the island, so I didn’t have a big network to rely upon, no superstar DJ friends - procrastination set in BIG TIME. I felt pretty intimidated by the task, I started to doubt myself, could I pull this off? Would anyone take me seriously? I spent about a year thinking about it….

The magic....

Then something shifted. Juanito from Las Dalias asked if I wanted to feature some of the comic pages in their magazine — plus an ad for the book. That moment felt like a sign. I said yes, and from there there was no going back….

Suddenly, the doors started opening again, the self doubt had gone and I really started to enjoy the process. I didn’t view this as a job, or something I had to do, but more a fun passion project that I wanted to create.

By May 2025, I have interviewed over 110 people — from the locals, to the hippies, DJ’s, musicians, club founders , dancers, performers and plenty of amazing freaks. It’s become a true community effort. People have welcomed me in, shared photos, stories, rare memorabilia — even original club posters and invites. I’ve been given books, stickers, and so many small gifts, like little blessings from the island. Once people saw this was really happening, the support was incredible.

I kept asking questions in local Facebook groups, and strangers would send me info, photos, and leads. Everyone wanted to help. It felt like the island itself wanted this story told — but only if it was done the Ibiza way: slowly, organically, through real connection, not corporate speed. I didn’t want to be some outsider writing from a desk in London, piecing together secondhand stories. I wanted to be here. To listen. To dance. To drink in the magic first-hand and reflect it back with love.

who's in it?

There are many people included, from the very famous to your everyday person, who may not be famous but has a great story to tell. Some of the people are no longer with us, such as Brasilio the Creative Director of KU and Tony Pike who of course created Pikes. But with permission from their next of kin I have access to photos, stories and personal memories.

Of course we have many well known DJ's included, such as Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Alfredo, Luciano and more...the list grows daily. But it's important to note that we are also including those DJ's who started the original Ibiza sound, people you might not have heard of, yet they played a crucial part in the original sound of Ibiza, such as Pippi, Cesar De Melero and Carlos Diaz.

Also it's worth nothing, the story isn't just about DJ's and nightclubs, there's so much more to this crazy little place. We will introduce you to all the soul seekers and experimentalists who followed a dream and made Ibiza their home. All the artists, performers and characters who expressed themselves through art, dance and music with 1 thing in common, music, dance and freedom!

why is this being created?

The history of Ibiza is like no other, what was once a poor farming island is now one of the most famous and fiercely loved places on the planet. There’s nowhere else in the world which has undergone such a radical change in such a short space of time. The stories we have collected will blow your mind, make you cringe, laugh out loud, perhaps shed a tear and get goosebumps as you get lost in nostalgia.

It’s an important story which needs to be told before it’s forgotten, before the experimentalists, soul seekers and risk takers who created the magic of Ibiza are no longer with us. If this story isn’t recorded now, in 20 years much of it will be forgotten. As Ibiza lovers ourselves we can’t allow that to happen.

how is this being created?

It’s thoroughly researched by me, not just by googling online, but actually tracking down and talking to the very people who are the story. It's taken quite a bit of detective work and good people skills to make it happen. Plus reading countless books and doing 1000's of hours research online.

When I look back at where I started and how far I have come, over 100 face to face interviews, 300 or more people contacted - it's quite incredible to watch it all come together. I hope to create THE best piece of Ibiza memorabilia to ever exist.

Progress

And now, in May 2025, people are starting to recognise me. I’ll be at a party and someone will say, “Hey, are you the comic book girl?” Or they’ll mention this cool Ibiza comic they heard about, not realising it’s me behind it. That’s the best feeling in the world — when your idea starts speaking for itself.

I’m hoping to finish the comic by the end of 2025, with a pre-order campaign launching mid-February 2026. The book will ship mid June 2026.

Right now, I’m looking for investors — people who love Ibiza, believe in the power of art, and want to be part of something truly iconic. I’m offering a strong return, but more than that, I’m offering a chance to help preserve the soul of this island before it fades into myth. If you know someone who might be interested, please connect us. This isn’t just a book. It’s history, madness, music, and memory — wrapped up in ink and imagination.

We Love Ibiza isn’t just a story. It’s the people of Ibiza’s story. And I can’t wait to share it with you.
